On Wednesday 4th July 2018 Hanshin Tigers played Chunichi Dragons (Nagoya), in a Central League baseball game at Koshien stadium in Nishinomiya. KOJSP students attended the game with two of the teaching staff Professor Richard Harrison and Ms. Ryoko Harima.

The game, watched by 35,043 fans, started at 6pm on the warm summers evening. Chunichi raced into a 4 run lead up to the 3rd innings when Hanshin hit back with 3 runs in the 4th, going on to level in the 6th innings. Hanshin then pulled ahead with 2 runs in the 8th to set up a climatic final innings. Chunichi valiantly pulled back 1 run to draw within a run of Hanshin in the 9th innings, but the final pitcher Doris closed out the game.

The KOJSP group enjoyed a rare winning game for Hanshin recently, experiencing the special atmosphere of a Koshien night game. Dreadlock wigs, imitating the hairstyle of closing pitcher Doris, were handed out to all the crowd, balloons were let off in the 7th innings, and we enjoyed all the refreshments and boisterous cheering on display that night Hanshin fans cheered the victory at the end of the game, with a rendition of their team song ‘Rokko Oroshi’ to send us all home happy.
