Area of expertise

Japanese Archaeology (Kofun Period)

I examine the actual situation of central authority’s control over local regions during the period of state formation, drawing on archaeological evidence such as large keyhole-shaped burial mounds, imported artifacts, and technologies for transporting heavy objects—including ships and stone coffins. My research focuses particularly on the Hyogo Prefecture region, which borders the central authority’s sphere of influence. I am also interested in activities that leverage the unique characteristics of locally rooted archaeological materials to contribute to regional revitalization through initiatives such as museum programs.
